Breakfast at The Henry was one of those meals that quietly sets the tone for the rest of the day. The restaurant is located a short walk from the Hotel Del Coronado on Coronado Island. It wasn’t rushed, and it wasn’t fussy. The kind of place that understands how people actually want to start a morning while traveling.
If there’s one thing I’d recommend right away, it’s this: try to get an outdoor table. The patio seating is ideal for easing into the day, enjoying your espresso, with a steady stream of foot traffic passing by. It’s the type of vibe that encourages lingering. Half paying attention to the conversation at the table. Half watching the rhythm of the neighborhood wake up around you. Even before the food arrived, a glass of prosecco in hand, it felt like time slowed down a bit. (In the best possible way.)
Service was a strong point from the start. Our server was attentive without hovering. He checked in just often enough to keep things moving while still giving us space to relax. Water and coffee stayed topped off, questions were answered easily, and nothing ever felt forced or scripted. It was polished but comfortable. Exactly what you want from a breakfast spot that sees both locals and visitors.
The breakfast menu itself is fairly concise. There aren’t endless options or overly complicated dishes, which could feel limiting at first glance, but it works in the restaurant’s favor. Everything feels intentional, and while neither of us found our “dream breakfast” on the menu, we both landed on choices we were genuinely happy with.
Shannon went with the classic two-egg breakfast, a straightforward plate done well. I opted for the California omelet, which struck a nice balance between hearty and fresh. The ingredients worked well together, and the portion size was generous without being overwhelming.
Most importantly, the food did what good breakfast food should do: it filled us up and set us up for the rest of the day without weighing us down. Nothing felt rushed out of the kitchen, and nothing sat too long before reaching the table. It was comfortable, reliable, and exactly what we needed that morning.
Overall impression:
The Henry is a superb choice for a relaxed breakfast, especially if you can grab an outdoor table and take your time. While the breakfast menu is somewhat limited, the quality of the food, the staff's attentiveness, and the easygoing atmosphere make it a good stop. It’s not about reinventing breakfast—it’s about doing it well, in a setting that encourages you to slow down and enjoy the start of the day.
